The Tool Concert

Wow.
I have never been to a concert like this. It was a visual show like no other. It's creepy and hauntingly beautiful at the same time.

Two things I was worried about before the show never happened...so that was good. One...Maynard James Keenan did not go on any diatribes against Bush or the war or anything. He never spoke. He said the word "Fantastic" at the end and that was it.
Two...There was no blasphemy against Jesus at all during the concert. If you know anything about Tool, you know that they have written some pretty awful songs. They didn't do any of those.

One thing that goes on all night at a Tool concert is this... Behind the band is a large screen that plays some of the strangest and eeriest visuals you will ever see. Most of them are the music videos that accompany their music on MTV.

Against my better judgement, here is an example of one of those videos.

******Please Do not watch this if you get creeped out easily, and DO NOT let any kids watch this.********

It's not bad, it's not sacrilegious...it's just weird and somehow visually disturbing. It will sum up the concert I just sat through...

The laser lightshow at the concert was amazing too!!!

maynard never goes off on political diatribes. he hardly ever says anything at all during concerts. and some of their best songs refer to jesus but that doesn't necessarily make them blasphemous. they simply ask questions regarding the nature of faith, jesus and religion in general that I beleive any christian (or otherwise) should not be scared to consider and analyse on their way to real belief in whatever they choose to believe. glad you enjoyed the concert and that you have an open mind despite your obvious distaste for some of their past lyrics.

The video you have posted is called Stinkfist.. it is about becoming desensitized to feeling anything for anyone but still digging to find that person to awake passion...
As for the visualizations at the concert.. I saw them this tour.. they are mostly Alex -visionary artist.. who mostly paints beings one with the world and the univeral energy field.. the anatomy of human beings connecting with everything and everyone else.. hence Grey's Anatomy...I find it strange you felt the concert was creepy.. It was a spiritual experiance for me especially hearing the epic 10,000 DAYS/WINGS FOR MARIE..which is about Maynard's mothers death.. se was paralyzed 10,000 days til her death.. He speaks of her unconditional love for her god.. being a 'of faith'.. and her ascending to heaven after her death..
Chet Zar, Romiro Rodriguez art and a bit of sacred geometrical symbols and alien or two and two..
Tool's message is in the music and they encourage you to think for yourself and question authority..Expand your mind.. and organized religion stops expansion of your mind and brain.. it stagnates your spiritual growth.
I am thinking any creepiness you felt came from the videos of adam jones.. he was a special effects guy on Jurassic park etc.. before he got his Tool gig as guitarist.. and did many of the videos...Tool never explains the songs videos.. they leave it up to you to interpret..

Alex Grey was the visionary artist.. I somehow deleted Grey up there....

To deny a few of Maynards past lyrics as anything but pure blasphemy is just silly. I'm not open minded when it comes to blasphemy. But we will all have to answer for our own sins someday.

I get the whole art thing. That's fine. But taking a dump and calling art is so passe and just stupid.
Tool is artistic. That doesn't mean I have to accept everything they put out because it's just art. I accept truth and I reject what isn't...Art or not.

I'm glad that you know the difference between what is truth and what isn't. I'm not quite that sure about life yet. I don't necessarily agree with all of his lyrics regarding jesus either however i still considered his standpoint and what had possibly led him to think that way at that time. I think such consideration can be important for all people. Only by trying to understand polar and different opinions to our own to we strengthen our own or realise folly and grow to be better.

do you really think tool goes around describing their music as "art"???

everyone says, "oh it's art"... and for some reason that makes it all OKAY.

i don't know any tool songs and i don't care to listen to any tool songs. art or not... frankly, i could care less.

saying/singing something offensive and passing it off as art is so dixie chicksish.

freedom of speech, i'll have a second helping, RIGHT?
